Healthy Eating Is Not About Staying Unrealistically Thin

Healthy eating is not about strict nutrition philosophies, staying unrealistically thin, or depriving yourself of the foods you love. Start with learning new ways to eat, such as adding more fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains and cutting back on foods that have a lot of fat, salt, and sugar. Healthy eating is one of the best things you can do to prevent health problems, such as: heart disease. Eating properly doesn't have to be boring, hard or time consuming. Healthy eating means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients your body need to maintain your health, feel good, and have energy.

Focus on finding foods you love and easy recipes that incorporate a few fresh ingredients. You don't have to be perfect and you don't have to completely eliminate foods you enjoy to have a healthy diet. If you are drawn towards sweet, salty or unhealthy foods, start by reducing portion sizes and not eating them as often. If you succeed in planning your diet around fibre-rich fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean protein, and good fats, you may find yourself naturally cutting back on foods that can get in the way of your healthy diet such as sugar, salt and refined starches.

Despite what certain fad diets would have you believe, we all need a balance of carbohydrates, protein, fat, fibre, vitamins, and minerals to sustain a healthy body. Vegetables are necessary for a healthy diet but avoid fried vegetables and those with dressings or sauces containing too much unhealthy fat and calories.

Vegetables and fruit can provide carbohydrates, vitamins C and A, iron, and fibre that your body needs for a healthy diet and life style. Most grocery stores carry a wide variety of fruits and vegetables from all over the world; why not try something new and adventurous. Vegetables and fruit with skin are also high in fibre. Fruits and vegetables are the foundation of a healthy diet they are low in calories and nutrient dense, which means they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and lots of fibre. Fruits and vegetables should be part of every meal and your first choice for a snack aim for a minimum of five portions each day.

Healthy eating is important for our mental and physical growth and to maintain good health. Healthy eating is one of the best things you can do for yourself. Eating correctly means consuming the right quantities of foods from all food groups in order to lead a healthy life. Healthy eating also protects from diabetes, osteoporosis, heart disease, strokes, and rotting teeth.
